VANCOUVER – The 2017 UBC Thunderbirds Football season will kick-off in Kamloops, BC. At 6pm on Wednesday, August 23rd at Kamloops’ Hillside Stadium, the UBC Thunderbirds will take on the Alberta Golden Bears in Canada West exhibition action. Bringing UBC football to fans in BC’s interior is vitally important to the Thunderbird program.

“I believe a big part of coaching at this level is the responsibility to grow the game. We need to be able to showcase our game, our talent, and the quality of our athletes around the country,” says UBC head coach Blake Nill. “Playing this game in Kamloops gives us the opportunity to do that.”

This will be the sole 2017 exhibition game for both the Thunderbirds and the Golden Bears, so football fans can expect a match-up with all    the intensity and high-powered action of a mid-season tilt.

Alberta’s head coach Chris Morris and I have talked about making sure our first units are on the field for most of the game,” says Nill. “I think the fans are really going to be pleasantly surprised at the quality of student-athletes who play at the Canadian university level. The players train all year, the coaches work all year. It’s a very high level brand.”

The game is presented in conjunction with the Kamloops Broncos Football Club. Tickets are available at the Tournament Capital Centre.
